Dr. Shekhar C. Mande, Former Director General, CSIR will deliver the Institute Lecture on Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: Role of Scientists and Institutions in India’s Freedom Struggle.
Dr. Shekhar C. Mande is a well-known Structural and Computational Biologist. He is the former Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India.
Dr. Mande earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore in 1991. Post Ph.D., Dr. Mande pursued his Post-Doctoral research at the University of Groningen, Netherlands, and at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. He began his career in Dec 1995 at the Institute of Microbial Technology in Chandigarh. In September 2001, he moved to the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics in Hyderabad as a senior staff scientist. Between September 2011 and September 2018, He served as Director at National Centre for Cell Science in Pune, India.
Dr. Mande is a Life Member of the Indian Biophysical Society, Indian Crystallographic Association, and Indian Science and Congress Association. He is a recipient of the B M Birla Young Scientist Award and Wellcome Trust International Senior Fellowship. Dr. Mande has also been awarded the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 2005, Bharat Asmita Tantravigyan Puraskar in 2019, and HK Firodia Vijnan Bhushan Award in 2020, to name a few. He is an elected fellow of major science academies, including the Indian National Science Academy New Delhi, National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad, and Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore.
