It is a five year dual degree programme for bright and motivated science students who have passed class XII. The programme integrates classroom learning with research and provides ample scope for multidisciplinary interactions. The training during the programme enables students to pursue a career in academia, R&D institutes and science based industries.
BS-MS (Dual Degree) Programme is offered in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics
IISER Bhopal offers four years BS Programme for bright and motivated science students who have passed (10+2) with Mathematics as one of the subjects. The programme integrates classroom learning with research. The training during the programme enables students to pursue careers in academia, industry or government organizations.
BS Programme is offered in two broad streams
The first year of the programme consists of core courses in basic sciences and introductory courses in Economics. The next three years are dedicated to specialization in Economic Sciences.
The students pursuing the BS Programme can also earn a ‘minor’ degree in other disciplines after fulfilling the prerequisites laid down by the respective department. After spending four years in the BS programme, students have the option to obtain BS-MS (Dual Degree) by spending an additional year devoted to courses and research thesis.
The two years M.Sc. Programme is offered for bright and motivated students with bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline. The programme aims to provide young motivated individuals with a rigorous training, desired level of scientific understanding, and a glimpse of global contemporary research at an early stage to enable them to pursue a career in science education and research.
The programme is currently offered in the Departments of Biological Science, Chemistry and Mathematics with a aim to integrate classroom learning with research and provides ample scope for multidisciplinary interactions. The training during the programme enables students to pursue a career in academia, R&D institutes, and science-based industries.
The Institute offers Integrated PhD programme in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. A prospective candidate should have completed a graduate programme (B.Sc./B.Tech./B.E.) in a discipline relevant to his/her choice of Integrated PhD programme. Candidates seeking admission in Mathematics and Chemistry should have a valid JAM score and candidates seeking admission in Physics should have a valid JEST score.
All admitted students will receive a fellowship of Rs. 10,000/- per month. Subsequently, upon successful completion of PhD candidacy requirements, a revised fellowship will be provided as per the Ministry of Education (MoE)/norms/guidelines.
IISER Bhopal is well equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities matching global standards in all disciplines to facilitate quality research. students must successfully complete course work, qualifying examination, seminars, and a dissertation. Besides the mandatory requirements, students are encourages to participate in several professional activities such as workshops, review meetings and conferences.
The Institute offers PhD programmes in several disciplines. A prospective candidate should have completed a postgraduate programme (M.S./M.Sc./M.Tech./MBBS) in a discipline relevant to his/her choice of PhD programme along with qualifying a national entrance exam. Students should have a valid rank in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and/or have qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET)/Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Junior Research Fellowship (CSIR-JRF), University Grants Commission-Junior Research Fellowship (UGC-JRF) or other equivalent examinations.

Doctoral students must successfully complete course work, qualifying examination, seminars, and a dissertation. Besides the mandatory requirements, students are encourages to participate in several professional activities such as workshops, review meetings and conferences. All doctoral students are also expected to participate in the undergraduate teaching programme of the Institute as a part of their training.
