BS-MS Dual Degree Programme:

It is a five year dual degree programme for bright and motivated science students who have passed class XII. The programme integrates classroom learning with research and provides ample scope for multidisciplinary interactions. The first two years of the programme consist of core courses in basic sciences, the third and fourth years are dedicated to specialization in chosen science subjects and the fifth year includes a research project. The training during the programme enables students to pursue a career in academia, R&D institutes and science based industries.

Currently, IISER Bhopal offers BS-MS (Dual Degree) programme in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics and Physics. Admission:

The process of admissions in all IISERs is managed by the Joint Admissions Committee (JAC), headed by a Chairman and having members from all the five IISERs. The details regarding admissions in all IISERs can be obtained by clicking at www.iiseradmission.in

Eligibility:

Students will be admitted to the Five Year BS-MS Dual Degree programme beginning August 2014 through the following channels:

  • Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Basic Science Stream: Students qualifying in SA (2012)/SX (2013)/SB (2013).
  • Joint Entrance Exam (Advanced)2014: Students securing a place in the rank list of Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)
  • State and Central Boards: Those, who are eligible for INSPIRE scholarship by Department of Science and Technology (DST) on the basis of their aggregate scores in class XII may be considered for admission after clearing an aptitude test
Scholarship:

All the students taking admission in IISER Bhopal are offered a scholarship of Rs. 60,000 + Rs. 20,000/- as contingency grant per annum through the INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) fellowship, Govt. of India. Advertisements on a regular basis in newspapers of national repute keeping in mind a regional reach are made in order to attract the young, inquisitive and science-driven minds. "Innovation of Science Pursuit for Inspire Research (INSPIRE)" is one such innovative program proposed by the Department of Science & Technology for attracting talent to science. The basic objective of INSPIRE is to communicate the excitements of creative pursuit of science to the youth population of the country. It is an endeavour to attract young talent to study science, and build the skilled human resource pool for strengthening and expanding the Science & Technology system and R&D base. Students admitted to 5 Years' Integrated M.S. Programme will receive a monthly fellowship of Rs 5000/- called "INSPIRE fellowship" from Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India.

While allotting seats at various IISERs, reservation rules regarding General, OBC (Non Creamy Layer), SC, ST and PD candidates are strictly followed as laid down by the Government of India. (Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2006 )

  1. M.Sc./M.Tech. Degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10 point scale.
    If the transcript/grade sheet issued by the Institute/University reports:
    1. Only marks, percentage will be considered.
    2. Only grades, CGPA/CPI will be considered. If CGPA/CPI is reported on any scale other than 10 (eg. 4 point/ 8 point scale), an equivalent CGPA/CPI will be calculated as per the following formula:
      CGPA/CPI in a 10 point scale = (CGPA/CPI Obtained×10)/PS
      PS = Point scale used by the Institute/University.
    3. Both marks and CGPA/CPI
      1. Percentage equivalent of CGPA/CPI, as indicated on the transcript/gradesheet, will be considered, if absolute grading was followed.

    Students whose results for CSIR-UGC NET Fellowship or ICMR-JRF category-I or DBT-JRF A category or Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship or INSPIRE-Ph.D. or any other equivalent fellowship are awaited may also apply with their roll number(s) mentioned in the application. Such candidates may walk in for the interview provided they have qualified examination for any of the above fellowship before the interview date.
Age: Preferably not more than 28 years as on August 01, 2016. Age relaxation of 3 years will be given for OBC (Non Creamy Layer) and 5 years for SC/ST/PH/Female applicants.

Selection Procedure:

The selection procedure for admission into the Ph.D. programs will be based on the performance of the candidate in the interviews which will be conducted in two rounds (Rounds I and II). Candidates shortlisted from Round I, will have the option to interact with faculty members in the department following which Round II of the interviews will be conducted for the final selection. During the interviews, the candidate will be evaluated for their conceptual knowledge and the research aptitude in the field of general and Biological sciences.

General Information for Candidates:

IISER Bhopal offers Integrated Ph.D. programme in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics for bright and motivated students who have received their Bachelor’s degree. The programme is aimed to provide young motivated individuals with a rigorous training, desired level of scientific understanding and a glimpse of global contemporary research at an early stage to enable them to pursue a career in science education and research. After successful completion of the coursework based on the advanced professional courses, students may continue with the state-of-the-art research which leads to the Ph.D. degree. However, the students, who do not intend to carrying out their Ph. D degree, can exit the programme with an MS Degree after the successful completion of the course work
